In 1974, Freightliner introduced its first conventional model, an
adaptation of the high “Cab over engine” (COE) mainstay product. A
“Cab over engine” (COE) or “flat nose” is where the driver is seated
above the front axle and the engine. They were common in North
American heavy-duty trucks, but lost prominence when permitted
length was extended in the early 1980s.
